Dental Implants

Dental implantsWhat are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts which are inserted into the upper or lower jaw bone where natural teeth are missing. Implants are surgically placed by a specialist (periodontist or oral surgeon) creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.

What does the implant process involve?

Your mouth must be thoroughly examined to determine if sufficient bone existing in the areas requiring implants. The placement of the implants requires two surgical procedures. First implants are placed into your jawbone beneath the surface of the gum where they remain undisturbed for 4-6 months. The second procedure requires uncovering the implants, now that they are ready for the restorative dentist to finalize. The restorative dentist will take a final impression. This impression will be sent to a dental lab where your new implant retained crown or cap will be fabricated.

Dental implants have changed the lives of people who have lost their ability to chew and smile confidently. They have regained their ability to eat anything they desire with confidence that their teeth appear natural. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene will assure that your new smile will last for many years.
